Coaches Corner Coaches Corner: COACH JIM JACKSON – Longtime Apple Valley High School (MN) and Shakopee High School (MN) Head WrestlingCoach, Jim’s sports an overall 871-54-4 High School Coaching Record, Ranking him 4th “All-Time” among High SchoolWrestling Coaches. He is a 3-Time “National Wrestling Coach of the Year” (National Wrestling Coaches Association,National High School Coaches Association and Wrestling USA Magazine}. Two of his former Apple Valley High SchoolTeam have captured “National Championships” in post-season polling (2010 & 2011). Jim coached Apple ValleyHigh School to 16 State Team Titles overall and Shakopee HS to 2 State Team Titles. Overall, he has coached 76 individualState Champions. His Apple Valley Teams once compiled a “133 Straight” Dual Meet Win Streak. Jim was an Iowa IntercollegiateAthletic Conference Champion, wrestling for Luther College (Decorah, Iowa). Jim joins Coach Scot Davis as Co-Head WrestlingCoaches at Sandpoint High school in Sandpoint, Idaho this coming 2022-2023 Wrestling Season. It is noteworthy to mentionthat Jim’s daughter, Taylor, was a 2-Time Minnesota State Doubles Champion in High School. With this said, besides Wrestling,Jim has also coached football and track. COACH SCOT DAVIS – Starting his 50th Year of Coaching, Scot has coached at several schools over the years, 25 of those atOwatonna High School (MN), where 10 of his Teams Ranked in the “Top 25” in the USA. His 2005 and 1998 State ChampionshipTeams Ranked #6 in 2005 and #8 in 1998. Davis is the “All-Time” Winningest Wrestling Coach in Amateur Wrestling History with aCareer HS Record of 1205-209-4. Scot is also a 3-Time “National Wrestling Coach of the Year” (National High School Coaches Associationand Wrestling USA Magazine). Scot was also “2009 USA Dream Team Coach” and honored with Wrestling USA Magazine’s 2009 “Masterof Wrestling Award.” As a College Coach at UW-Superior (WI) in 1986 he was named a “Top Rookie College Coach” by Amateur WrestlingNews and NCAA News. Scot is a member of 8 Hall of Fames. Also, a longtime Writer for several Wrestling Publications, Scot was honoredwith the “Distinguished Bob Dellinger Award” In 1986 for the “Outstanding Wrestling Writer” in the USA. He has also contributed to thesport in several “Leadership” positions over the years. Currently he serves as Vice-President of Programs for the National WrestlingHall of Fame-Minnesota Chapter. He also served as President of the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association. Scot was a 1973 NAIAAll-American Wrestler and Team Captain at Augsburg College (Minneapolis, MN).
